The Sutton Fair Board of Directors, on behalf of the staff and volunteers, would like to thank everyone involved for another successful year at Sutton Fair. We are incredibly grateful to our fair visitors for attending, our exhibitors for displaying their animals and handicrafts, our sponsors for supporting the fair financially, our concession vendors for supplying such a wide array of food and merchandise, the service clubs for their dedication and support, the York Regional Police, Emergency Services, Georgina Fire Department and St. John’s Ambulance for their professionalism and care, and of course our many suppliers and business partners for their expertise and service. The Sutton Fair is truly a community event, and we rely on our many stakeholders to ensure our annual tradition continues to be such an overwhelming success!

Despite the heat and a little rain, our crowds enjoyed the ever-popular demolition derby, horse, cattle and other farm animal shows, homecraft exhibits, the thrills of the midway operated by World’s Finest Shows, the SuperDogs and all sorts of entertainment on stage and throughout the grounds. Young and old, families and friends, gathered to enjoy the 2023 Sutton Fair, “From Pioneer Days to Modern Ways”.

Plans are underway for the 167th Sutton Fair to be held on August 8, 9, 10 & 11, 2024, an annual tradition since 1857. Always the weekend after the August Civic Holiday!

Celebrating Our Ambassadors of 2023 – Leaders of Tomorrow

We are filled with pride and excitement as we announce the recent winners of the Ambassador competition at the Sutton Fair and Horse Show 2023. The competition was tough, but through their dedication, passion, and commitment to excellence, these individuals stood out and will now lead the way in representing our agricultural community.

Meet the Winners:

  • Ryanne MacNeill: Senior Ambassador 2023
  • Clara Koning: Junior Ambassador 2023
  • Avery Clarke: Junior Ambassador Runner-up 2023

A Legacy of Leadership: The Ambassador role is not merely a title; it’s a symbol of leadership and a beacon for community involvement. The winners will represent the Sutton Agricultural Society locally and provincially for a year. They will be able to shine as community leaders and enjoy numerous networking opportunities.

Investing in Education: Our winners also have the opportunity to receive a bursary to support their post-secondary education, signifying our belief in nurturing the minds that will shape our future.

A Year of Representation: The Ambassador of the Fair will be actively participating in various functions throughout the year, including the convention of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies in February. The Senior Ambassador might also be selected to represent the Fair at the CNE Ambassador of the Fairs Competition in August 2024.

In Conclusion: The Sutton Fair and Horse Show would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to Ryanne, Clara, and Avery. Your victory is not just a personal achievement but a testament to your potential to positively impact our community.

We look forward to watching you grow in your roles, taking the values and traditions of our society to new heights.

A Celebration of Community and Tradition

The annual Sutton Fair Banquet is a beloved tradition that has been celebrated by residents of Georgina, Ontario for many years. The banquet, which is typically held in January, was moved to a new night of the last Saturday in February. Despite the change in date, the banquet remained a special event that brought the community together to enjoy a night of great food, music, and celebration.

One of the highlights of the Sutton Fair Banquet is the delicious food that is served. This year, guests were treated to a mouth-watering spread that included chicken, roast beef, salad, vegetables, and dessert. The food was prepared by skilled chefs who put a lot of care and attention into every dish.

In addition to the fantastic food, guests were also treated to music from a professional DJ. The music created a lively and fun atmosphere that encouraged guests to dance and have a great time. As Jason Kay, a member of the Sutton Agricultural Society, put it, “It is an evening of Ambassadors.” Indeed, the banquet is a celebration of the community and its ambassadors, who work tirelessly to make the Sutton Fair a success.

Greetings from Ambassadors

One of the most special moments of the banquet was when Madelyn Grossi brought greetings from the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE). Maddy presented Jason with a gift consisting of a framed photo of memories from last year’s CNE experience. This thoughtful gesture highlighted the strong sense of community and connection that has been created between the CNE and the Sutton Agricultural Society.

The banquet also provided an opportunity for the Senior and Junior Ambassadors for the Sutton Fair to speak about their experiences. Abbie Velocci, the Senior Ambassador for Sutton Fair 2022, shared her memories and insights from last year’s fair. Makenna Coates, the Junior Ambassador, also brought greetings to the guests. Both ambassadors are excellent representatives of the Sutton Agricultural Society and embody the spirit of the fair.

Finally, the banquet was an opportunity to thank Keith Clark, the outgoing Past-President of the Sutton Agricultural Society. Jason presented Keith with some parting gifts as a token of appreciation for his hard work and dedication to the community.

After dinner, door prizes were drawn and given out to guests. The Junior members of the society were especially excited to have a chance to win a special stuffed animal door prize. Overall, the Sutton Fair Banquet was a wonderful celebration of community and tradition. The Sutton Agricultural Society found a way to bring people together and continue this beloved tradition. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year!

(Toronto, ON) August 22, 2022 The Canadian National Exhibition is pleased to annouce Madelyn Grossi from Sutton Fair and Horse Show (Sutton Agricultural Society) as the winner of the 49th annual Ambassador of the Fairs program. The exclusive year-long role of Ambassador of the Fairs will take Madelyn across Ontario as a representative of the CNE and all agricultural fairs in the province. As the newly crowned 2022 CNE Ambassador of the Fairs, Grossi will participate in a series of official duties during the remaining 15 days of Canada’s largest fair while also representing her local agricultural community.

Joining more than 30 participants over three days at the CNE, Grossi was one of seven finalists who participated in the final round of the program on Sunday, August 21. Finalists were interviewed and judged on a wide range of criteria including: knowledge of the CNE and Canadian agriculture, poise, self-confidence, public speaking and overall impression. The first runner-up was Emma Smyth from Arthur Agricultural Society and the second runner-up was Mary Fizell from Listowel Agricultural Society.

Madelyn is passionate about sports and fitness. An avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Madelyn has a dream of one day watching the Leafs play in every NHL arena. She has competed in a worldwide CrossFit competition for four years, testing her capabilities in various ways. For the past two seasons, Madelyn has also co-hosted the Brock Sport Management podcast. Additionally, Madelyn has participated in the Optimist International Oratorical world championships. She likes swimming and enjoying Lake Simcoe in the summer with her family. Madelyn is an active volunteer in the community, with organizations like Georgina Cares and the Optimist Club of Keswick. Madelyn currently works as a member of the Toronto FC Game Crew with MLSE and a Fan Experience representative at Tennis Canada. This fall, Madelyn will be entering her third year of the Sport Management program at Brock University.

The Ambassador of the Fairs program is a longstanding tradition at the CNE, aiming to educate and celebrate Canada’s rich history in agriculture. Since its inception in 1972, the program has seen more than 3000 participants from over 100 communities across the province.

The Baby Show at the fair is an annual tradition which will continue despite these times.

Given all the risk factors, we’ve decided to produce a safe show. Being away due to the pandemic has given the committee some perspective and an opportunity to switch up the program. There will be a Baby Show at the Sutton Fair in 2022. The show won’t be like it was before.

We’ve missed the fair and can’t wait to get back! We recognize that all situations are different and require their assessment of risk.

Risk Factors:

  • COVID-19 continues as a global pandemic.
  • Babies can’t be vaccinated.
  • The Baby Show is in close quarters, even in the arena.

We recognize that some people are uncomfortable with a gathering of this type. Nobody wants to be responsible for possibly getting anyone else sick.

The committee has worked hard to create a new program where we can honour our traditions and still show community spirit. Instructions are clear, we’re getting the word out, and people are looking forward to the Baby Show at Sutton Fair. The entry form can be filled out online and printed. See the Baby Show contest page for rules and categories.

Photos of your babies will be submitted to the fair in person one day before the fair starts. Friday is judging day. Winners in each category will be announced at the fair.

Art students will decorate a large wall in the arena that is usually blank. Then, they will create an art installation featuring all the Baby Show contestants.

Please note that the categories have changed this year for diversity and inclusion.

Friday is judging day.

Visitors can vote on the overall people’s choice award at the Baby Show art installation fair. Voting is open to all fair attendees.

Come to the fair and vote. The program is sponsored and provides a grand prize and participant prizes.

For privacy reasons, the committee will destroy photos submitted after the conclusion of the 2022 Sutton Fair.
