Rules:

The General Rules of the Sutton Fair shall Apply.

Additional Rules:

  1. The Sutton Fair Exhibitor fee will not be applied to the Baby Show.
  2. Entries will only be accepted in person at the Sutton Arena on Wednesday August 9th, 2023 from 3pm to 9pm. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  3. Baby Show registration forms can be found on the Sutton Fair Website under Downloads. You can fill it in ahead of time, print it and bring with you to save time. Baby Show registration forms will be available as well at the registration table in the Sutton Arena, on the Wednesday.
  4. Every participant in the Baby Show must sign a consent waiver. Waiver’s can be found on the Sutton Fair Website under Downloads (complete and print, to bring with you), or it can be filled out at the registration table on the Wednesday August 9th.
  5. Every participant must show the birth certificate of the baby participant to verify the age category.
  6. Babies are judged based upon 2 submitted pictures/ photos.
  • 1 – 4” x 6” colour photo/ picture of baby in a diaper only (no headbands or accessories)
  • 1 – 4” x 6” colour photo/ picture of baby based on fair theme for current year
  • Both photos must be 4” x 6”, no other size will be accepted.
  1. Photoshopping or photograph enhancements are not permitted. Only untouched from the original shot taken will be accepted. Photoshopping or digitally enhancing means anything done to the original photo, ie. No cropping, colour changes, red-eye removal, lightening or darkening, contrast changing etc. Yes, the judges will be able to tell if you have modified it.
  2. Professional photographs will not be permitted.
  3. Do not mount or frame the photos. Photos will be placed together by the Baby Show Committee for display.
  4. Winners will be announced on Friday evening.
  5. Prizes will be awarded to 1st place and 2nd place in each category.
  6. All categories are gender inclusive, not divided by Boy/ Girl of the baby.
  7. Categories are listed as follows:

  1. Judges will judge the above categories.
  2. In addition to the judged categories, there will also be a “People’s Choice Award”. The “People’s Choice Award” is an opportunity for those attending the fair on Friday August 5th,2022 to be able to vote for their choice. The “People’s Choice Award” will be awarded to the baby that receives the most votes on Friday August 11th,2023 from 9am – 5pm.
  3. All winners will be notified. Winners will be presented with their award on Sunday August 13th,2023 at the Closing Award ceremonies on the fair grounds.
  4. On the last day at the end of the fair, all photos or pictures submitted for the Baby Show will be destroyed.

Rules and Regulations:

  1. The contestant must be able to pedal the tractor without assistance.
  2. Pedal tractors will be furnished for participants.
  3. All contestants must wear shoes.
  4. Contestants will be given three chances to get the sled moving from the starting line.
  5. The tractor must stay between the lines of the pulling lane at all times.
  6. If the tractor leaves the pulling lane, the distance will be measured from the starting line to the Point where the tractor crossed the boundary.
  7. In case of a tie, there will be a pull-off to determine the winner.
  8. There will be four classes:
    Class 1: 30 to 45 pounds
    Class 2: 46 to 60 pounds
    Class 3: 61 to 80 pounds
    Class 4: 81 to 100 pounds
  9. Judge’s decision will be final.
  10. All contestants must be present by the time of the pedal pull with a signed permission slip in hand.
  11. Registration one hour before pedal pull.
  12. Only the first twenty (20) children in each class will be qualified to participate.

Senior Ambassador Program

  • Competition is open to men and women who will be 18 years of age on or before August 1st, 2023.
  • Contestants must live within a 40 km radius of Sutton.
  • Successful candidates have the opportunity to receive a bursary to be used toward any aspect of post secondary education.
  • The Ambassador will represent the Sutton Agricultural Society locally and provincially for a year.
  • The program provides many opportunities to be a leader in the community as well as many networking opportunities across the province for the entire year (including competing at the Canadian National Exhibition/The EX in Toronto).

Junior Ambassador Program

  • Competition is open to Georgina youth 11 – 14 years of age as of August 1st, 2023.
  • Develop and strengthen public speaking and leadership skills.
  • Opportunity to attend events in the community and represent the Sutton Agricultural Society throughout the year.

 

Qualifications, Rules and General Guidelines

  1. Contestants must be available to carry out duties for the 4 days of the Sutton Fair and for the 12 month period following the Fair. Contestants are asked to disclose any scheduling conflicts already known to them, to the Ambassador Committee, prior to the commencement of the competition. Scheduling conflicts include work, school, or personal plans (eg. travel plans).
  2. Contestants must be in good health and be able to meet the physical demands of the job until completion of their reign in August the following year.
  3. Judges will consider:
    1. Good character, poise, personality and charm
    2. Ability to join in and contribute to general conversation; any of the following qualifications will be considered in this area:
      1. General knowledge of the Fair, Town and District
      2. General information about current affairs
      3. Any special talent in, but not limited to, 4-H, School Clubs, Junior Farmers, Fair related activities, arts, hobbies, music, drama, dancing, sports or leadership
  4. The public competition will be held on Thursday August 10th, 2023 at 3:30pm for Juniors and 6:00pm for Seniors on the Pavilion Stage; interviews will be held on the same day, prior to the competition. Contestants will be contacted in advance to confirm interview times and location.
  5. Each contestant will be expected to give a short prepared speech (approximately 2-3 minutes) on one of the following: Agriculture, importance of Agricultural societies, an aspect of the Fair or pride of place. Each contestant must provide the Ambassador Committee with a written copy of their speech.
  6. In the event the Ambassador cannot complete their year the 1st runner up will carry out his/her duties.
  7. The Ambassador is expected to attend and participate in the 4 days of the Fair at mutually agreed upon times. Scheduling conflicts must be disclosed to the competition (see rule #2). There will be a chaperone arranged to assist the Ambassador at specific times during the Fair. The role of the chaperone will be to escort the Ambassador to various functions.
  8. The Ambassador or Runner-up, while on duty, is expected to be attired appropriately. Business casual attire such as dresses, slacks, sweaters, dress shirts, suits and skirts is essential. No blue jeans are allowed. Appropriate footwear for walking and standing for long periods is essential. Only while on duty should the Ambassador and/or Runner-up wear their tiara and/or sash.
  9. The Ambassador of the Fair will be expected to represent the Fair at various functions throughout the year including the convention of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies in February. The Society may choose to have the appointed Senior Ambassador represent the Fair at the CNE Ambassador of the Fairs Competition in August 2024 if deemed advisable.
